They know how to gain your trust and that of your children as well. No matter how wonderful someone seems, do not allow them to get close to your children until you have done some detective work. You may encounter people who want to rip you off when hiring someone to work in your home as a cleaner, contractor, or even a landscaper. They may work just one day, rip you off, and then move on. Others may want to rape you. Usually, those are serial rapists and they have a record. That means background checks on anyone who would have access to you and your home are essential.

Use the Internet as a great source of information. The search engines can dig up old news stories about someone, and you can see whatever else is listed about them in random places online. So if moving to Florida or just traveling for vacation, you may want to inform yourself by looking up Florida crime statistics.
